By a MetNews Staff Writer

The judges of the San Diego Superior Court have elected Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Tamila Ebrahimi Ipema to be the court’s newest commissioner, officials in San Diego said yesterday.

A court spokesperson told the MetNews that Ipema was elected on Friday, and is expected to take her oath of office in early-to-mid May.

A courtroom clerk said that Ipema was not available for comment yesterday. Last week, Ipema had said a formal announcement regarding her resignation was scheduled to take place on Friday and she declined further comment.

She currently presides over a family law courtroom at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.

Ipema obtained her law degree from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in Kentucky, and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1991. She served as a Superior Court senior research Aattorney in Long Beach prior to taking the bench in August 2005.

Her name was sent to the State Bar Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation as a possible appointee to a judgeship in August 2007, and again this past January.

Her husband, Henry P. Ipema Jr., is an immigration judge in San Diego.
