By a MetNews Staff Writer

DLA Piper yesterday announced that Jonathan F. Atzen has joined the firm’s 800-member Corporate and Finance practice group as a partner in its Los Angeles and Century City offices.

Atzen comes to the firm from publicly traded Advanced Cell Technology where he served as its senior vice president and general counsel and, more recently, from its Los Angeles-based portfolio company, venture capital fund Anthem Venture Partners, where he was a venture partner and general counsel.

DLA Piper U.S. Managing Partner J. Terence O’Malley praised Atzen’s “excellent reputation within the venture capital/private equity community here in Los Angeles,” as well as his “extensive experience and relationships with leading California-based entrepreneurs, innovators and investors.”

Atzen’s practice focuses on corporate securities and venture capital/private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, technology transfer and general corporate representation.

Previously a member of the Venture Law Group at Heller Ehrman before joining Advanced Cell Technology, he attended college at UC Santa Barbara, and graduated from Loyola Law School before his admission to the State Bar in 1991.

DLA Piper has over 3,700 lawyers in 25 countries and 65 offices throughout the United States, United Kingdom, continental Europe, Middle East and Asia, and is chaired by former Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell. Its areas of practice include corporate, finance, human resources, litigation, real estate, regulatory and legislative, tax, and technology, life sciences, media and communications.
