By a MetNews Staff Writer

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 18 in the alleged murder of former State Bar President Garvin F. Shallenberger, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said yesterday.

Shallenberger, who was 85, was found dead in his Palm Desert vacation home Sept. 30. Michael Salvador Anunciation, 46, was arrested in October and has been charged with Shallenberger’s murder.

The hearing will be held in Indio.

Shallenberger served as president of the State Bar of California in 1977. A native of Montana, he earned his law degree from Boalt Hall and was admitted to practice in 1949. He was a civil litigator and partner in the Orange County firm of Rutan and Tucker before he retired a decade ago.

Shallenberger was also a past president of the Orange County Bar Association.
