Malibu Courthouse Tentatively to Reopen This Afternoon

By a MetNews Staff Writer

The Malibu courthouse, which was closed yesterday after fires broke out in the area over the weekend, is tentatively scheduled to reopen this afternoon, court officials said yesterday.

Reopening is contingent upon the success of firefighting activities and cleanup in the area, they said.

In a press release issued late yesterday, the court asked those with hearings that were scheduled for yesterday or for this morning to contact the court to reschedule and that those with matters set for this afternoon contact the court before traveling in order to verify that it will be open.

Yesterday’s closing was the second in a little over a month for the courthouse, located at 23525 W. Civic Center Way. The building was closed for a week in October, also due to fires.

The Associated Press reported, based on Los Angeles County Fire Department sources, that by yesterday, the Malibu fire was 90 percent contained, with full containment expected later in the day.
