By a MetNews Staff Writer

William T. Fujioka was named to the newly created position of Los Angeles County chief executive officer yesterday by unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors.

A county spokesperson made the announcement late yesterday following a closed meeting of the board. The spokesperson said that Fujioka, who retired in February as Los Angeles city administrative officer, would be paid an annual salary of $310,000.

The new CEO is the brother of Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Fred Fujioka.

William Fujioka, 54, is a 1974 graduate of UC Santa Cruz, where he majored in sociology. After taking a junior administrative position with the Los Angeles Police Department, he moved to the county in 1978 and worked in a number of capacities in different departments, including management positions in the Department of Health Services, before moving to the Department of Human Resources in 1995.

He returned to the city in 1997 to head the Personnel Department and was named CAO two years later.
