Supervisors Name Taylor Chief County Probation Officer
By a MetNews Staff Writer
Los Angeles County supervisors yesterday named Robert Taylor to head the 5,200-employee county Probation Department.
The vote, taken in closed session, was 4-0, with Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke absent, a county spokesperson, who added that Taylorís salary must be negotiated with the board, said late yesterday.
As deputy chief probation officer, Taylor has been running the department since Paul Higa suffered a stroke March 31.
Higa, who took over the department last year, died April 8.
The department has an annual budget of $547 million and supervises 60,000 adults and 20,000 juvenile probationers.
