Commission Slates June Hearing For C.A. Nominee

The Commission on Judicial Appointments has scheduled a June 9 confirmation hearing in Los Angeles for Riverside Superior Court Judge Douglas P. Miller, nominated by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Fourth District Court of Appeal.

The hearing will begin at 11 a.m. in the courtroom of the Ronald Reagan Building.

Miller was nominated Thursday to succeed Justice James Ward of Div. Two. Ward retired last year.

When considering nominations in the Fourth District, the commission consists of Chief Justice Ronald M. George, Attorney General Bill Lockyer; and Court of Appeal Presiding Justice David Sills of Div. Three, the senior presiding justice in the district.

Miller, formerly a private practitioner in Riverside, has been a judge of the Riverside court since 1995.

The deadline for written comment on the nomination, or to notify the commission that one wishes to speak at the hearing, is June 26 at 5 p.m. The commission requested  that communications be addressed to the chief justice at 350 McAllister Street, San Francisco, CA 94102, Attention:  Ms. Gale Tunnell, Secretary to the Commission on Judicial Appointments.

Requests to speak must include a summary of the facts on which any testimony or opinion will be based.
