Commissioner Tia Fisher Named Superior Court Judge

By a MetNews Staff Writer

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday named Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Tia G. Fisher to a judgeship on the court

Fisher, 47, has served as a Superior Court commissioner since trial court unification in 2000, after having served three years as a Santa Anita Municipal Court commissioner.

She was a Los Angeles deputy district attorney from 1987 to 1997 and clerked for a Wisconsin appellate judge from  1985 to 1986.

Fisher, who holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin, succeeds Judge Howard Schwab, who retired Tuesday.

Fisher is a Republican.

Her appointment leaves the court without a current vacancy, but several judges have retirements scheduled, including Michael Knight on Monday, Richard Kolostian on Tuesday, Ruth Essegian on March 3, Thomas A. Peterson and Michael Farrell on March 6,  and Richard E. Denner on March 31.
