Former Latham & Watkins attorney Steven D. Atlee has joined Winston & Strawn’s Los Angeles office as a partner in its litigation practice.

“I got a great offer from Winston & Strawn, and it was a great opportunity for me,” Atlee told the MetNews  Friday.  “I have a chance to play a role in the growth of a small office.”

Atlee’s practice includes professional liability, securities fraud, patent, trademark, trade secrets, unfair competition, consumer actions, telecommunications and real property matters. His experience encompasses class actions, bench and jury trials, arbitrations and mediations.

At Latham & Watkins’ Los Angeles office he represented corporations in securities, intellectual property, technology, unfair competition and class action lawsuits.

Laura R. Petroff, managing partner of Winston & Strawn’s Los Angeles office, said in a release:

“We continue to strengthen our . . . Los Angeles litigation practice with the addition of Steve’s superb background and exceptional legal skills. We’re proud of our firm’s growth on the West Coast and the increased capability available to our clients.”

A graduate of Yale College, Atlee earned his law degree from USC Law School. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1990.

Atlee serves on the board of directors of the Western Center on Law and Poverty and is a former chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Real Estate Litigation Section and ADR subsection of the Real Property Section.

Winston & Strawn is an international commercial law firm with more than 850 attorneys in nine offices, including Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Paris, Geneva and Moscow.

Its Los Angeles office opened in 1999 and now has approximately 50 attorneys who practice in several of the firm’s core practice areas—litigation, labor and employment relations, corporate, energy, and real estate—on a national and regional basis.

The firm has recently been expanding its West Coast presence through additions to both its Los Angeles office and its San Francisco office, which opened in 2003 and now has more than 60 attorneys.
