Family Slates May 2 Memorial Service for Janet Rae

Memorial services for Janet Hettman Rae, the wife of prominent Los Angeles attorney Matthew “Sandy” Rae, have been scheduled for May 2.

Rae passed away last Wednesday in Belmont, Calif. after a four-year battle with cancer. She was 79.

A member of a prominent San Francisco family, she and Sandy Rae were married in 1953 and settled in Manhattan Beach, where she designed the family home and planted and extensive garden.

She served as a docent for the Los Angeles Superior Court and volunteered, as did her husband, on behalf of the California Republican League—a group of politically moderate Republicans—as well as the Republican Party and a number of candidates.

She also did volunteer work on behalf of Phi Alpha Delta, a law fraternity of which Sandy Rae is a longtime active member.

 In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Mary-Anna Rae of Half Moon Bay, Margaret “Peggy” Rae Mallory of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Janet Rae-Dupree of Half Moon Bay, along with sister Mary-Anna H. Nairn of Chestnut Hill, Mass. And three grandchildren.

The May 2 service, to be held on the 52nd anniversary of the Raes’ marriage, will begin at 3 p.m. at the Wayfarerπs Chapel, 5755 Palos Verdes Drive South, Rancho Palos Verdes.

Private inurnment will follow at Cypress Lawn Memorial

Park in Colma. The family has asked that any memorial donations be made in her memory to the Sempervirens Fund, www.sempervirens.org, or the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, www.kappaalphatheta.org.
