A memorial service has been scheduled for Thursday for retired Los Angeles Municipal Court Judge Robert Wallerstein.

The service for Wallerstein, who died last Thursday at age 76, will take place at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, at 4 p.m.

Wallerstein was a member of the court from 1983, when he was appointed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown on Brown’s last day in office, until his retirement in 1996. He was unopposed for a full term in 1988 and easily survived a challenge in 1994.

The Southwestern University School of Law graduate had previously practiced business and entertainment law in Los Angeles and was at one time a staff attorney at World Savings and Loan Association.

As a Municipal Court judge, he heard both civil and criminal cases in the Van Nuys courthouse.
