San Diego Jurist Confirmed for Federal Judgeship; Oregon Prosecutor Also Approved

A San Diego Superior Court judge has been confirmed as a judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
The U.S. Senate voted 95-0 Thursday to approve President Bush’s nomination of Dana M. Sabraw to the court.
Sabraw, 44, served as a municipal court judge for three years before being appointed a Superior Court judge in 1998. Before being tapped by then-Gov. Pete Wilson for the bench, he was a partner with the law firm of Baker and McKenzie.
He joined that firm in 1989, handling business and commercial litigation.
Sabraw fills one of five newly-created judgeships authorized by Congress last year. He is the second judge confirmed to one of those slots, having been confirmed the day after Magistrate Judge Larry A. Burns received similar unanimous approval.
Two more nominees, Assistant U.S. Attorney William Q. Hayes and Magistrate Judge John A. Houston of San Diego, were approved Thursday by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The last candidate awaiting confirmation is Magistrate Judge Roger Benitez of El Centro.
The Senate Thursday also confirmed a new district judge for the District of Oregon. Michael Mosman, currently the U.S. attorney for the district, was backed by a vote of 93-0.
