Police Commission President Caruso Joins Italian American Foundation Board of Directors

Rick J. Caruso, president of the Los Angeles Police Commission and an inactive member of the State Bar of California, was elected earlier this month to the National Italian American Foundation’s board of directors.
Washington, D.C.-based NIAF is a nonprofit group dedicated to promoting contributions to Italian Americans.
“I’m really proud of my heritage, and I’m really proud to be on the board,” Caruso told the MetNews.
Caruso became active in commercial real estate in 1987. His Santa Monica-based firm, Caruso Affiliated, developed and manages nearly 35 commercial properties, including The Grove in the Fairfax District, Commons at Calabasas, Promenade at Westlake, Encino Marketplace, Burton Place Retail Center in West Los Angeles and Village at Moorpark.
Caruso was appointed to the Police Commission for a five-year term by Mayor James Hahn in 2001. At that time, he was elected president of the commission and was re-elected to that post in 2002. Caruso previously served on the Board of Water and Power Commissioners where he was president from 1985 through 1993 and from 1997 to 2000.
