Magistrates Block, Chapman Seeking Reappointment; Court Asks

By a MetNews Staff Writer

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California is soliciting comments on the potential reappointment of Magistrate Judges Robert N. Block and Rosalyn M. Chapman, the court said Friday in a release.

Full-time magistrate judges are appointed for renewable terms of eight years. Judges seeking new terms are subject to review by a citizens’ panel, which makes a recommendation to the district judges as to whether the magistrate merits retention.

Comments, the court said, should reflect on the magistrate’s performance in office, as well as “character, ability and commitment to equal justice under law.”

Block’s new term would begin Feb. 17 of next year and Chapman’s March 1.

The court requested that comments be submitted, no later than June 14, to Allen Abersman, Chief Deputy Clerk, United States District Court, 312 N. Spring St., Room G-8, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
