Attorney Michael Donahue, renowned for his work with emerging growth companies, has joined the Corporate & Securities Group of Holland & Knight’s Los Angeles office.

Donahue brings a whole list of clients from his private practice, Donahue & Mesereau, where he focused on advising emerging growth companies; business and securities transactions; investment banking transaction; and mergers and acquisitions, among other areas.

“Mike Donahue’s breadth of experience in the securities area will further strengthen the capabilities of our corporate practice, particularly for clients with operations in the western part of the country,” Michael L. Jamieson, chair of the firm’s Business Law Department, said in a statement.

Donahue said he has currently been working with several small technology firms in China—advising them on U.S. securities regulations, the security and exchange commission, and U.S. corporate and security legal matters.

He helps Chinese companies get up and trading on NASDAQ and raise capital in U.S. and Asian markets, which is a “booming area right now,” said Donahue.

“I intend to continue with the same practice as in past, building up corporate securities and emerging growth practices,” said Donahue.  “I’m excited that my clients now have access to the tremendous resources of Holland & Knight.”

Previously, Donahue worked in private practice and served as chief of the Branch of Enforcement for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Los Angeles from 1973 to 1976 and as an attorney for the SEC headquarters in Washington, D.C. from 1969 to 1972.

Donahue served on the Board of Directors and is a past president of the Los Angeles Venture Association and has been chairman of its annual Investment Capital Conference since its inception in 1994.  The conference is one of the largest in the country that serves emerging and middle market companies.

Donahue received his law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law and his B.A from the University of Notre Dame.
