Involuntary inactive status looms for attorneys in MCLE compliance groups one and two who failed to complete their compliance cards when they were due in January and have not assured their receipt, together with a late fee, by the State Bar today by 5 p.m.

The requirement applies to lawyers with last names beginning with A-G (compliance group one) or H-M (group two), unless they fall into one of several exempt categories.

State Bar members who have not complied will be deemed “Not Entitled” to practice law on the official roster of California lawyers and must prove compliance by submitting certificates of attendance and a self-study log and pay a $200 reinstatement fee.

Anyone continuing to practice while on “Not Entitled” status is subject to discipline for unauthorized practice of law.

On June 29, 2001, an MCLE Non-Compliance 60-Day Notice was sent to the address of record of lawyers in the  two compliance groups who are still listed as not having complied.

Questions my be directed to the Office of Certification at 415/538-2155 or certification@calsb.org.
