Padilla Names Ferraro Aide Pat Gobler to Advisor Post

By a MetNews Staff Writer

Pat Gobler, longtime top aide to the late City Council President John Ferraro, has been named special advisor to new council president Alex Padilla.

Largely unknown to Los Angeles residents outside City Hall and Ferraro’s Fourth Council District, Gobler wielded enormous clout, acting as gatekeeper for Ferraro since the Tom Bradley administration. With more than 30 years experience in City Hall, Gobler is widely considered one of the key inside players in city affairs.

Ferraro died in April after a 50-year career in appointed and elected city office. He was the city’s longest-serving council president.

Padilla was elected council president last Tuesday, the first day of the new two-year council term. At 28, he is one of the youngest members ever to serve on the council.

“Pat has a great working knowledge of the office of Council President and has longtime professional experience working with City Council members, council staff and city departments,” Padilla said in a statement. “I’m proud to have her as a member of my team.”
